Biggest influence on your career?
My Dad and his Irish-Catholic work ethic.
How about “your finest moment,” the thing
you’re most
proud of?
The truth? When my son says “please” and “thank
you”.
What attracted you to Gearon Hoffman?
The creative and the people. Oh yeah, and I thought the website
looked
cool, and now here I am on it!
Do you have a method for coming up with ideas
and solutions
for clients?
I have to get the bad ideas on paper first. Sometimes the bad ideas
don’t
look so bad after a couple of hours. But I get over it.
What’s the essence of a giant killing brand?
A razor sharp sense of what your brand stands for, what it can do
for
someone. There is that great Howard Gossage line, “people
notice
and read what is interesting to them, and sometimes
it’s
advertising.”
What talent do you wish you had?
I wish I could tell jokes. I am really bad at it. No comedic timing
and
a bad memory are a lethal combination.
What can't you live without?
My family, of course. But I would add the Internet and Whole Foods.
Is there any food that helps you think more creatively?
Anything with caffeine or sugar in it.
What’s your point of view about politics?
Don’t bring it up at dinner unless you are absolutely sure
everyone
is a Democrat.
What was growing up like for you?
I grew up in North Georgia. It was nice growing up with trees,
rivers
and mountains. But, it could get pretty boring. Boring leads
to trouble
usually. And that starts with “T” and that rhymes
with “P”
and that stands for “pool”.
What was college like for you?
The first time around it was really fun. The second time around
was
a bit more serious.
What are your favorite internet sites?
I will proudly say that I am a pop-culture addict so TMZ and
gofugyourself.com
are my favorites. I also really like gawker.com.
