What got you into this business in the first place?
I got into advertising because my roommates were all graduating
from law school.
It was time for me to stop waiting on tables and get
a "real" job…or
a reasonable facsimile thereof.
What was “your finest moment,” the thing you’re
most
proud of?
My beer-swilling neighbors are awed by my participation in the
agency's
seminal work to get Sam Adams named, packaged, and
off the ground. Seeing my Harpoon theme line on all their stuff also
gives
me a little jolt of pride.
What was your most embarrassing moment in this business?
Seeing the press release photo from a TV shoot that first revealed
my
then thinning, now gone hair. It was left to my colleagues to
explain
that my scalp had been plainly visible for some time.
What attracted you to Gearon Hoffman?
I was attracted to work at GH by the idea of
working with Dan and
Bob - true for both times I joined up.
Do you have a method for coming up with ideas and
solutions
for clients?
We work until we’re through the Three Stages of Creativity:
1.
We're Geniuses! 2. We're hacks!! 3. Hey - we're not bad. It's
important
to go through all 3, and never stop at 1 or 2.
What driving career goals do you still have?
Before I'm done in this business, I'd like to take a few more clients
to
the big leagues- and beat those big guys.
What can't you live without?
My family. Italian food. My vintage guitars.
What are your plans for after advertising?
After advertising, I plan on death.
What’s your favorite sports team?
It's a tossup - New Zealand All Blacks and Boston Red Sox.
What was growing up like for you?
Apparently, growing up was not as painful for me as it should
have been.
Do you have any kids?
My wife Janice and I are proud parents of two kids - a daughter,
Alexa,
and son, Max. Alexa graduated from U. Maryland and is
now in law school.
Max graduated from Emerson College and will
soon be a rock star.
What was college like for you?
Boston College was, without doubt, the best 4 and 1/2
years of my life.
